Abstract:
This “Hbailitation à Diriger les Recherches” (HDR) proposes to explore another geography of innovation, through an urban approach, by showing how, on the one hand, technological innovation is positioned at the heart of territorial strategies for the search for competitiveness and development. attractiveness, and how, on the other hand, social innovation can be seen as another way of producing and building the city, guided by non-market imperatives. We first show that technological innovation serves as a support for different urban models (innovative cities, creative cities, smart cities, etc.), various territorial processes (technopolization and siliconization) and the evolution of metropolitan functioning (uberization.). Through this approach, we come back to the urban "schizophrenia" of innovation territories, to their relationship to progress and to the acceleration of their diffusion throughout the world. Secondly, we reflect on the place of innovation in spatial planning policies in France and the direction taken by territorial policies increasingly geared towards the search for competitiveness. In this perspective, we come back to two areas that we have been practicing for twenty years for the first and for twelve years for the second: Sophia-Antipolis, created in 1969 and presented since as the first science park in Europe; Euromediterranean, the largest European urban regeneration operation based on culture, creativity and innovation. Thirdly, we explore the city and innovation relationship through the study of social innovation and the production of its territories. To do this, we propose and develop the concept of altermetropolization through a typology distinguishing altermetropolization from compromise and radical altermetropolization. Through these concepts, we pose the prospects for future geographic research.
